Student Worker Program

Over 100 student workers, ages 16 -19, will gain work experience and build job skills in positions with the City of Stockton, and an additional 200 students and young adults are working with four local non-profit organizations, expanding, and enhancing existing youth workforce programs at the Greater Valley Conservation Corps, Parents by Choice, Rising Sun, and San Joaquin A+.

 

Student Worker IdentityThe City of Stockton, with funding from #CaliforniansFor All Youth Jobs Corps, will provide 106 paid summer jobs to high school students, who live in the city of Stockton. This is the inaugural year of the Stockton Student Worker Program (SSWP), providing jobs during the month of June 2023.

  • Student Workers will gain four weeks of work experience by contributing to various departments at the City of Stockton.
  • Students will work up to 30 hours per week in City departments and receive $23.00 per hour.
  • The program will provide valuable work experiences for young people in the community.

 

Summer Youth Employment Kick-Off Event - June 1, 2023

Those hired by the City and community partners will attend a kick-off event on June 1, 2023, at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium. Youth participating in the program, their employers, and guests, will receive orientation and prepare for their work experience.

 

Important Dates

  • The program will kick off with a job development orientation on June 1st.
  • Participants will work in City departments through June 28th.
  • The Program will conclude with a Farewell reception on June 29th.

 

Student Worker Supervisors

Departments will also hire Student Worker Supervisors (non-high school students). The Supervisors will provide support to City departments and their staff by overseeing the Student Workers and supporting their personal and professional growth in the program.
