Awards & Recognition

City of Stockton employees are often recognized for their individual contributions to the City and their professions. The City also receives awards for projects, programs, and services provided to the public, plus positive recognition for the quality of life in our community.  We recognize and celebrate those accomplishments by sharing the information below.

September 2019 - Community Development Department

American Planning Association California Chapter, 2019 Award of Excellence

  • Comprehensive Plan Award: Large Jurisdiction for the Envision Stockton 2040 General Plan.

 

February 2018 - Economic Development Department

CALED Award of Merit for Food and Agriculture Award 

The California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED) selected the City of Stockton Economic Development Department’s Food and Agriculture Action Plan for the Awards of Excellence Program, Award of Merit. The City’s Economic Development Department submitted the Food and Agriculture Action Plan, a roadmap for addressing food insecurity, policy, branding, workforce development, value-added manufacturing, and healthy food education. Read more in the CALED Award News Release.

 

January 2018 - Government Finance Officers Association - Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The City of Stockton was one of over 1,600 participants throughout North America honored by this recognition and prestigious award. Budget Officer Kimberly Trammel and the Budget Team earned this distinction for the current Fiscal Year 2017/18 Annual Budget. Read more in the GFOA News Release.

 

Recognition

Truth in Accounting - Stockton 4th most fiscally healthy large city in the U.S.

Truth in Accounting, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that evaluates the financial documents of large U.S. cities, has listed Stockton, California as the fourth fiscally healthiest city in the nation in its Financial State of the Cities 2021 report. Only 13 cities are labeled "sunshine cities," Stockton has been at the top of the list for three years, up from sixth on the "sunshine" list in both 2019 and 2020. A total of 62 cities are listed as "sinkhole cities."

 

March 2017 -- Stockton Among Top 12 Cities to Launch Your Tech Startup

February 7, 2017 – Stockton 98th of Top 100 Best Places to Live in U.S. 

According to U.S. News & World Report, Stockton received an overall rating of 5.5 and is one of three Northern California cities to make the list. The revitalization of downtown is bringing new life to the city, which is home to a vibrant arts and growing small business artisans community.
