Van Buskirk Reuse

A Strategic Design and Reuse Project

The City of Stockton Community Services Department has prepared a draft Master Plan for the rehabilitation and reuse of the former Van Buskirk Golf Course property. The property is located next to the Van Buskirk Community Center and is ideally suited for active and passive outdoor recreational facilities, programs, and activities.

Project Details

A $260,000 design contract with Design Workshop Inc. was approved by City Council on November 17, 2020, and the design process began in December 2020. The proposed design was approved by City Council, on January 24, 2023.

The 2023 Van Buskirk Master Plan includes opportunities for flood protection, passive and active recreation facilities, programs, and activities. It will be used to pursue funding opportunities for a phased approach to the project. The 2023 Biological Resources and Ecosystem values of the Van Buskirk Golf Course is supporting document for the Master Plan. It provides information relevant to the possible future permitting or mitigation activities required for federal or state laws that meet rehabilitation and reuse objectives. The 2023 Van Buskirk Master Plan and 2023 Biological Resources and Ecosystem values of the Van Buskirk Golf Course we’re accepted by City Council, on August 22, 2023.

This location and site will be used to enhance public space and create a regional facility that will offer opportunities that engage residents and attract visitors. The City has engaged a consultant to help with the development of this vision and to ensure that what is proposed is driven by community interests and needs through extensive engagement.

Design Workshop Inc., is an experienced design consultant that has been leading landscape architecture and urban design projects in California since 1968. The concept plan will include information gathered during the community engagement process.
