The City of Stockton Community Services Department is preparing for the rehabilitation and reuse of the former Van Buskirk Golf Course property. The property is located next to the Van Buskirk Community Center and is ideally suited for active and passive outdoor recreational facilities, programs, and activities. Future uses might also include educational and conservation offerings.
This location and site will be used to enhance public space and create a regional facility that will offer opportunities that engage residents and attract visitors. The City has engaged a consultant to help with the development of this vision and to ensure that what is proposed is driven by community interests and needs through extensive engagement.
Design Workshop Inc., is an experienced design consultant that has been leading landscape architecture and urban design projects in California since 1968. The concept plan will include information gathered during the community engagement process.
Community meetings were held on June 23, 2021, at the Weston Ranch Library and July 22, 2021, at the Van Buskirk Community Center.
If you were unable to attend these meetings, consider participating in the Van Buskirk Reuse Strategic Plan Survey online. Community participation is essential and will be incorporated in the City’s long-term concept plan for the park.
Significant progress has been made toward the plan for future uses, including:
A $260,000 design contract with Design Workshop Inc. was approved by City Council on November 17, 2020, and the design process began in December 2020. Design completion is anticipated by 2022.
