Sidewalks, Curbs & Gutters

The City's Public Works Department oversees construction and repairs of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters along public right-of-ways.  Stockton Municipal Code makes these right-of-way improvements the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. 

The State of California Streets and Highways Code, Section 5600, requires property owners to be responsible for maintenance of: 

• sidewalk, including parking strip, curb, and gutter, adjacent the private property,
• sweeping and removal of debris and weeds, and
• repair and replacement of sidewalk if needed.

Damaged Sidewalks

The Public Works Department is responsible for damage caused by City trees only. 

If you have or know of a damaged or raised sidewalk, please submit a service request for Sidewalks or call the Municipal Service Center.
