Licensing Information
A dog or cat license is a permit to keep a dog or cat within the City of Stockton. It is similar to licensing your vehicle. Licensing allows the City to keep track of current rabies vaccinations. Another benefit is a found, licensed dog or cat can be identified and returned to its owner, if the dog or cat is wearing the registration tag.
Vaccinations
A current rabies vaccination and a microchip are required to purchase a dog or cat license. The City of Stockton Animal Shelter offers microchips, which includes nation-wide registration. The Animal Shelter works with VIP Pet care Services clinic to provide vaccinations. For current clinic vaccination dates, times and clinic location, please visit their web site using the link provided under External Links below.
To license your dog or cat, please download or print a copy of the Animal Services Division Application for Pet License.
Dog and Cat Licensing Fees
Dog and cat license are available for 1, 2 or 3 years, up to expiration date of current rabies vaccination. Fees for dogs and cats that have been spayed or neutered are lower than for dogs and cats that are unaltered. Reduced fees are available for pet owners who are age 55 or over.
