Extreme heat days or weeks are a recurring event in the San Joaquin Valley. During higher temperatures, a hot weather advisory may be declared by San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services (OES). See External Links below for a link to San Joaquin OES.

Extreme Heat

High temperatures are not unique to California, especially in the Central Valley.  The entire State is preparing for unusual weather patterns this year.  For more information about 2023 and the Summer of Safety, please visit Listos California.

 

 

Precautions During Heat Emergency

  • Drink plenty of fluids.

  • Find air conditioning.

  • Avoid strenuous activities.

  • Wear light clothing.

  • Check on family members and neighbors.

  • Be sure pets have plenty of water.

  • Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

  • Watch for heat illness – heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
    • If you are experiencing a medical emergency such as a heart attack, stroke, difficulty breathing, or altered mental status, do not delay seeking care and contact 9-1-1.

Remember, certain people are more vulnerable to hot weather including the elderly, very young, economically disadvantaged, and those with medical conditions such as heart and lung disease.

Check in on anyone who might need extra care during times of extreme heat.
